The (Tweed) Caped Crusader

So you may remember me being all excited a few weeks ago when I placed my order from the Simply Be winter clearance sale. I ordered a few different pieces but the item I was most excited to receive was this Belted Tweed Cape Coat! I've wanted it for ages but the original full price of £80.00 was a little too much for me as I had already bought my winter coat when it was released and I wasn't sure if it would actually suit me, but as it went down to just £24 I couldn't resist adding it to my cold weather collection!

To be perfectly honest though, this is not something I would wear if it was really cold as it genuinely is a cap with just holes for your arms. If you had a nice snuggly long sleeved jumper on it would probably be ok, but I prefer to have arms on my coats when it's frosty outside!

That said, it is lovely and warm as the tweed fabric is nice and thick and it's fully lined. I was kind of unsure if I liked it the first time I put it on but now I'm pretty sold, it's just a great, classic design that is pretty unusual these days - I think it's a real shame that capes aren't as fashionable any more I just love them! I am seeing some cape dresses around at the moment though so fingers crossed they're creeping back into style!

The belt definitely makes the coat as it is very bulky and unflattering without it, but the belt sinches the waist in nicely and creates pleats in the fabric so it has a peplum like appearance which we all know I'm a big fan of. The collar actually does all the way up but this makes me look a little too Sherlock Holmes so I just folded the collar down. I think I'll pin a nice glitzy vintage brooch on to the collar next time I wear it just to add an extra touch of decadence!

Looking at the back and side views above I actually love it even more as it's very flattering to my shape and does a great job of disguising the dreaded back chub with the belt sinched in nicely. I'm looking forward to trying it with a few dresses and different skirt styles to see what it looks like as I've only tried it with straight or pencil styles so far. I'm wearing it here with my Mat. Fashion Asymmetric Striped Dress and studded ankle boots from Evans.

If you think you'd like to try this classy classic coat then head here to the Simply Be website to snap one up in the sale while you still can, but be quick about it as some sizes are selling out!

Neon Chic? Evans has you covered!

Neon is a trend that I really really love, although if you're not careful it can be easy to take it over the top and end up in the ever regretted realms of the early noughties raver. To avoid looking like you've fallen out of an Instagram teen queen's most popular photo evaaaaa try teaming your highlighter hues with blacks, charcoals and neutrals for a chic but eye catching look which translates to both day and evening wear. Here are some outfits I have put together from Evans's excellent selection of neon detailed pieces!

As a platinum blonde I have kind of a hard time wearing citrus shades as it brings out the yellow tones in my hair which I fight so hard to keep at bay so these are usually colours I stay away from, but using neon shades as an accent means I can rock this trend and not end up feeling like my roots match my outfit.

This is a really easy way to introduce a key Spring look into your every day office wear. Just one neon detailed clothing piece and a few well chosen accessories thrown in with your standard black pencil skirt and courts can take you from standard smart to formal fashionista.

I love the pewter dot details of this tunic dress, and I'm really not usually a fan of tunics!!! I think this one has a really lovely shape with the relaxed short sleeves and v neck and my lord would these pointy pewter pumps look amazing with it! A sexy messy up do will take this outfit to the next level of awesome casual stylish babelyness.

Have you bought any neon pieces for Spring? I'd love to see what you've found!

Out of my comfort zone! Plus size summer and holiday wear from Yours Clothing

I know I'm jumping the gun here posting about Summer clothing in March, but I'll let you into a little secret - Pete and I have been together for five years and never gone on holiday outside of the UK. I'm kind of making it my mission to get us out of the country this year to somewhere warm cause that's what my man bear likes - relaxing beach holidays somewhere hot and toasty. That however, is not my kind of holiday, but I lurve him and don't want him to explode from stress so we're gonna go somewhere he can relax on a balcony drinking cocktails and readings books. As long as there's wifi. Ahem.

Now, I like and have always gone on city holidays where I can zip around all day going to museums and restaurants and go shopping, so I don't really have any experience of buying beach holiday clothes. I have therefore made it my mission to find some pretty sunny holiday outfits that I don't feel intensely uncomfortable and unglamorous in, and the wonderful team at Yours Clothing very kindly sent me this lovely outfit to dip my toe into the world of dressing to enjoy the sun.

Naturally I don't want to sacrifice looking glam just cause I'll be in a country with actual weather, and I think this dress fits the bill perfectly - it's not only beautiful and covered with darling painterly flowers but is light, airy and comfortable. The stripes to the waist and skirt bottom are a nice little detail and are accented with a pretty stripe of crochet edging, as is the bust. The back of the body of the dress is gathered and elasticated which I really like - it adds comfort to this non stretch cotton fabric as you aren't restricted when you sit down, I hate the feeling of being squeezed to death by your clothes when you sit down. The pattern reminds me of the beautiful flowers painted on barge boats or gorgeous old gypsy caravans and the black background makes them stand out so wonderfully. I think going with a mainly black outfit was as good way to try my hand at this dressing for heat thing as an entirely pale coloured outfit would have scared me a little I think. I'm still not feeling 100% comfortable having my upper arms on display but I know with a few more wears I'll be cool with it, I just need a little more time to get used to it.

I've always wanted a big floppy summer hat since I was small and saw photos of Brigitte Bardot flouncing around on the sand in one and thought it was the coolest thing ever. I sadly don't think I can pull it off quite as well as the lovely Brigitte but it really helped keep my face and neck protected from the sun even if it was only the now and again flashes we get here in old Blighty. I adore hats and wish they would come back into fashion for every day wear, I think sunny weather is a great excuse to rock a pretty head piece!

The sandals I have on here are definitely going to be a favourite footwear piece for me in the heat - they're so comfortable and I adore the snazzy metallic gold band over the toes! There is a slight wedged heel which is nice as I always find a teensy bit of lift nicer to walk on than a completely flat sole and as they are an EEE width fitting there was no worry that my chubby feets wouldn't get through the straps. They fit absolutely perfectly and because of the straps that cross over the bridge of the foot and wrap around the ankle they don't feel like they're going to slip off if you're walking on uneven ground - there's nothing worse than walking down the street and accidentally leaving a shoe a few steps behind you!

A few of my favourite things! An outfit post and Simply Be Pink PU Biker Jacket review

$

0

I am fully aware that this is kind of a weird outfit, but today I thought it would be fun to wear all of my current favourite things together and see what happens. It is Sunday after all, and in my books on Sundays you can do whatever you want.

I'm pretty sure most of you who follow me on Twitter and Instagram will know how excited I was when Simply Be released their pink biker jacket and how thrilled I was when it arrived, I literally ordered it as soon as I saw it on the website! It's such a beautiful pale pink and the PU faux leather is so soft and lovely. The quilted detail over the shoulders and arms is great and I love the gun-metal silver rather than bright silver to the zips and buttons - if they had been gold rather than silver I would have been over the moon but they're still fab as they are. As well as the quilting there are a few other traditional biker jacket features that most of the fashion brand versions miss out such as the belt loops and buttoned overlap at the bottom of the zip. I just adore when you take a piece of clothing traditionally associated with outlaws and troublemakers and give it an overtly feminine makeover like this, it's such a fabulous juxtaposition.

As usual I ordered a size down from my usual top size, I always do this as a like a more form fitting look with jackets and it help things look better on my short body. I also don't have a very big bust so I don't need to worry about having room in that area, but if you are blessed with big bosoms then I'd stick with your regular upper body size. If I could have changed anything with this jacket the only thing would be making it short into a more cropped style, but only because that suits me more!

As for the rest of the outfit, the skirt will also be familiar as I've worn it in a post or two before. It's from ASOS Curve and is a great, eye catching item. Most of the time I wear this skirt with plain items to let it get the attention it deserves, but today I wore it with my favourite band shirt which I got at a Clutch show a few years ago. I never usually like the fit of standard t-shirts and often cut them down into a more feminine shape. This one I cut into a v neck and stripped off the sleeves so it's more like a vest, which I find far more comfortable then the standard high ribbed neck of a normal t-shirt.

The shoes were a recent TK Maxx acquisition from a trip to Sheffield last weekend. I never find any shoes in my size at my local TK Maxx stores and was pleasantly surprised to find about three pairs I liked in the Sheffield store - I'll be making sure I head there again soon to see if I can find more pairs of pretty flats to buy! I just love how kitschy and silly these are, the berry pink velour, the embroidery and the diamante on the heels add up to crazy shoe perfection in my eyes!

As for accessories I wore my Crown and Glory medium glitter bow which I actually bought to wear to my SIL's wedding, but I'm not sure if I will any more so decided to give it a test run. The pictures don't do it justice at all, it's the glitziest, glitteriest thing I own and I love it. I'll definitely be buying some more colours, although I think I would prefer it on a headband as it's a little heavier than I'd like on a crocodile style clip so I think I'm going to do a DIY job on this one and stick it to a band.

The beautiful mirrored green necklace I actually won in an Instagram giveaway and is from Sugar and Vice. It's so much more lovely than I imagined it would be and the chain length if perfect, often I have trouble finding necklaces that are long enough not to cover my lil diamond tattoo but this sits in just the right place! My next purchase from them will definitely be the Gin or Death necklace - as I have a gin bottle tattoo I think it would only be right to, and isn't their packaging lovely?!

Plus Size Picks - Boohoo Plus

I can't tell you how long ago I first started wishing that Boohoo.com would release a plus size range, but we're talking a good few years. I was always jealous of my regular size friends being able to head to Boohoo and grab a bargain dress for a work night out when I had to spend well over thirty quid to get something pretty enough for a night on the town. Then I received an email one evening on my way home from work which put a big smile on my face - a press release for Boohoo Plus!

Naturally after excitedly reading the release I headed straight to the website and was thrilled to see the selection available ranging from a size 16 to 24. Dresses, jumpsuits, skirts, tops, jackets - it's a great selection and at great prices and I'm happy to say very on trend with the range of pastel colours available, mesh detailing, sports luxe styles and a cute skater dresses. There is also a good few midi length items which makes me very happy as I much prefer skirts and dresses to fall below the knee. Here are my favourite pieces from the current collection...

1  -  2  -  3

The draped top with more figure hugging skirt of the first dress is such a great contrast and I can imagine it working on lots of different figures, add some gold jewellery, a hair decoration and some fancy heels and this would be a great simple and effortlessly chic look for a night out.

Plain jersey midi dresses have been a wardrobe essential for several months now and I love the deep red of this middle dress. The short sleeves are nice too and I feel are much more comfortable under a long sleeved slouchy cardigan or jacket which is what I would pair with it along with lots of long gold necklaces, heeled ankle boots and a fancy up do. At just £12 why not get every colour?

I'm sad I missed out on this mesh panel dress in my size, it's such a simple but eye catching style and again I think could be dressed up for a night out with the right accessories.

1  -  2  -  2 & 33

Boohoo Plus is really catering for my lilac obsession with these delightful pieces. The sqare neck to the skater dress is fabulous and this quilted jacket would be so versatile for Spring. The quilted look also follows through to the matching t shirt dress or pencil skirt and there's even a jumper in the same style too to help you channel the sports luce trend in a more feminine way.

1  -  2  -  3

Don't you think this peter pan collar dress would be super cute for the office teamed with some tights and mid heeled courts? If only I was brave enough to wear dresses this short - perhaps one day! I also just love this white jumpsuit but don't think I could quite pull it off... wouldn't it be just perfect for a holiday in a lovely resort if you wore it with big shades, sandals and a sexy wide brimmed hat? Super glam! Here's another dress encompassing the mesh panel trend too, this time in a shorter style that would be lovely for an evening with friends in the beer garden in the Summer sipping vino as the sun goes down. Can you tell I'm desperate for Summer to arrive?!

What are your favourite pieces from the range? I can't wait for the kimono jacket in the first photo to be released!

Kimono Jacket  -  Dress  -  Shoes  -  Bangles  -  Earrings

Hello my darlings! I have another selection of summer clothes for you all today this time from purse friendly high street lovelies New Look!

Up top I've put together a glam-tastic outfit just perfect for a night out at a beach bar with your boo. I adore lattice necklines ever since I saw the wonderful Alika dress from Bettie Page, but this takes that gorgeous gown and whisks it into a more casual style perfect for strutting down the boardwalk. Teamed with this killer animal print jacket and wooden platform heels you'll look effortlessly chic and sexy.

Here's a cute little outfit for daytime wanderings through the local town. The simply but modern design of the vest top will work wonderfully with the more busy, old fashioned print of the shorts - I just adore that high waist. Add some chunky gold jewellery and comfy mid-height wedges and you're all set for a day of adventuring.

Dress  -  Shrug  -  Cut Out Pumps  -  Earrings

I love the nautical look of teaming blue and white, but sometimes when not done in a kitschy cute way that can look a little too middle aged rich lady for my liking. This outfit puts an ethnic twist on the colour scheme mixing beautiful Asian inspired patterns with bright cobalt blue and optical white. Just watch out you don't get those sandal pumps mucky!

This is another sexy outfit for a night out, combining the raunchy red of the midi dress with a beautiful black crochet jacket and cut out wedges that echo the style of the jacket. Throw on this fabulous statement necklace and this simple t-shirt style dress is kicked up to maximum glam.

Jumpsuit  -  Kimono Jacket  -  Shoes  -  Necklace

Are you bored of kimono jackets yet? Pah, how could anyone be?! This beautiful blue number is especially stunning and has full length sleeves for when that sea wind sends a chill later in the night. As the jacket is so striking it really need a simply background piece which is why this mesh sleeved jumpsuit is its perfect partner along with the simply white and wood platform heels. Add another spark of glitz and glamour with this long layered necklace and party away into the wee small hours - after all, what are holidays for but to have fun?

Be yourself, everyone else is already taken.

Liz McClarnon Swimwear Collection Event & Interview for Fashion World

$

One thing which always daunts me is swimwear. I see lots of super cute swimming costumes and bikinis in regular stores but can never seem to find something cute but comfortable in my size that I'd actually like to wear when heading to the pool - until now! Fashion World have come up with another amazing celebrity collection this time with the absolutely lovely Liz McClarnon of Atomic Kitten fame, who has designed a gorgeous and fun range of swimwear.

Naturally, I just adore the prints - so bold and bright and kitschy cute with cherries, flamingos and daisies some of the stalwarts of 50's pin up clothing. I was lucky enough to be invited by Fashion World to head to London to interview Liz about the collection and any other topics I could think of! I headed to London on a sunny Wednesday afternoon and headed to 45 Park Lane (with a quick pit stop to Selfridges beauty room to grab a new MAC lippy and an OCC Lip Tar) - it was really warm in the sun and I complete misjudged how far down Park Lane the hotel was so I arrived a bit of a shiny faced mess, but hey what can you do. I arrived to find lovely Sally, Hollie and Lucie sitting in the reception area (Anna-Lise joined us later too) and sat having a lovely chat before I headed upstairs to see Liz in her suite.

The hotel 45 Park Lane was stunning and full of contemporary art!

It was just lovely to see how excited Liz was about the collection - she is amazingly fun, warm and friendly by the way - her favourites from the collection are the cherry swimsuit and the daisy bikini. When I mentioned how much I loved the cute prints Liz said she had been really nervous when pitching them to the design team as they are pretty bold and out there compared with what you usually see on plus size swimwear, but thankfully (for me and her!) they loved them and gave the go ahead straight away.

Liz had clearly considered how well the designs would suit us plus size gals when putting the collection together - she told me that the ruched sides to the bikini bottoms can be adjusted so they can either be high rise to cover a little more tummy or adjusted so they aren't as wide and look more like a regular bikini bottom. I like the swim dresses the best as they cover up my tum and are flattering to my back area and I was so pleased to see that the dress was available in all three prints - keep your eyes peeled as I'll be reviewing two of them very soon!

I asked Liz if she had been nervous shooting in the swimwear, I had read interviews with her previously when she said she had always hated those kind of shoots when she was with the Kittens and she told me that although she had been nervous because this collection was her baby so to speak and she was so proud of it, she felt more confident and knew that she had to look comfortable and happy in the photos to make people believe in and want to purchase from the collection. Liz was so honest and lovely about everything, she's a peach!

My last question about the range was why did she choose to do it with Fashion World? It turns out that Liz and her family had all been buying from Fashion World for a few years now as you could find pretty, affordable pieces to suit all the shapes and figures of her family so when they approached her about the line she was ecstatic. I think it really is truly wonderful that now there are shops offering the same styles in both regular and plus sizes rather than offering both size options but with completely different clothes. Liz's collection starts at a size 12 and goes up to a 32 so gives a really wide range of ladies the chance to grab a cute piece for the beach!

I also took the opportunity to ask Liz a few non-swimwear related questions! Naturally I asked a few food related questions as I'd seen Liz on Masterchef, she says that her friends always request beef wellington when they come for dinner and she's made it so many times she's a pro at it, but one of her favourite things to eat is her Mum's cheese and broccoli soup - we both said how strange it is that neither of us can make soups quite as well as our Mums!

When asked if there is a beauty product she just can't live without Liz told me about a lady called Jenny Harding and her Dynasty Clinic which offers skincare solutions for eczema and acne prone skin. Liz had such trouble with eczema on her face for years before she was recommended Jenny and her appointment there was a revelation - after just one facial session her skin had improved dramatically and after using some of her products at home fr a few days her eczema was nearly all gone. I have trouble with acne and Liz recommended the same cream she uses which is called Pink Heaven which can be applied at night time and also worn under make up - I'll definitely be giving it a go!

I had an absolute blast on my short trip to London meeting Liz and some of my PS blogger babe friends, thank you so much Fashion World for inviting me to take part! Keep your eyes peeled on Lucie's blog as she'll be posting a video of us all discussing the collection soon.

Vintage Style Summer Shoes - Rocking some Mexican chic sandals with Yoma!

Hi my lovelies! Well I have a first for you today on the blog, a shoe review! I was really excited when the lovely people at Yoma contacted me as they are the first independent company I have worked with and also the first shoe company I have reviewed a product for. I headed to their website and fell in love with many a pair of pretty sandals. They all remind me of the type of shoe I imagine Frida Kahlo would have worn while strolling around one of her beautiful homes in Mexico on a hot sunny day wearing a gorgeous bright floaty dress and lots of giant flowers in her hair!

Yoma are based in Brighton (which most of you know is one of my favourite places in the UK) in the North Laines, somehow I've never actually been in to the shop but I'll make sure I head in on my next visit. Yoma stock a wonderful range of shoes, bags, scarves, wallets and other accessories. Everything has a quirky and cute vibe and a lot of the shoe styles would look really at home with a vintage outfit - after all a lot of ladies in the 1950's wore leather sandals in the hot weather, although I don't think most of them were as pretty as Yoma's!

I decided to try the Bice Multi Coloured Flower Shoe and went for a size 8 - if I can get a wide fitting size I'm actually a 7, but I find that with regular fit shoes if I size up by one I usually get a good fit which was indeed the case with these babies.

When the parcel arrived I ripped off the packing paper and was greeted with a beautiful bright red patterned shoe box which was sturdy enough (and pretty enough) for me to use as proper storage for the shoes in the future. I hate flimsy, ugly shoe boxes with a passion and it annoys me that they still exist as it means you have to find another way to keep your fancy shoes in good condition when stored.
Anyhoo, I opened up the crimson box and that lovely leather scent was unleashed instantly letting me know that these would be durable and well made sandals. Each shoe was loving packed into a protective fabric bag and then wrapped in tissue, and on pulling each one out I was greeted with an array of bright coloured stripes against a black background. It was such a pretty sight, my mother in law and I spent a good few minutes oohing and aahing over how lovely they were with their neat white stitching and little bugs punched into the leather.

When I finally went to try them on I was a little nervous that my wide feet wouldn't slip into them, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that they were a near perfect fit - not tight around the ball of my foot so my feet didn't bulge through the straps and at a nice, comfortable height that would be more than manageable for a sunny day stroll, also aided by the ankle strap to stop them getting left behind in the sand!

I can definitely see me wearing these a lot through the summer and judging by the excellent craftsmanship I'm convinced that they'll last me a good few years. I'm keeping my eyes peeled in case the yellow colour way comes back in stock in my size too as that little red flower is calling my name! Hopefully I'll be adding those and the other three styles below to my shoe collection in the near future - I can't wait to see what new styles Yoma bring out later in the year!

You can buy the Bice sandal in black here and find the full Yoma sandal collection here.

If you join the mailing list here you'll also get 10% off your next order!

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Black Metal Dahlia Lip Tar Review and Lip Swatches

$

Ah the infamous OCC Lip Tar. I've wanted to try it for oh so long but hadn't seen a colour which made me desperate to go out and buy one, that is until I spotted Black Metal Dahlia. One of the Lip Tar Metallic range it is a desperately deep plum-like shade that I would have killed for back in my goth days, and still would now so it seems!

Having had a swatch of two of the standard Lip Tar shades at my lovely friend Sophia's house last week I was aching to get my hands on a tube of Demure when I made a quick stop trip to Selfridge's beauty room last week but came up short as it was sold out (as it appears to be everywhere *cry*). I had decided to go for Demure over Black Metal Dahlia as my first Lip Tar purchase because I thought it a more wearable colour for me and I like the matte finish it dried into, but as I say it was not meant to be so I grabbed this baby and boy am I glad I did!

Each Lip Tar comes in a little clear plastic pouch with a small lip brush and a little instruction card. I was actually pretty impressed with the lip brush as it was nice and soft but still allowed a really good amount of control despite its size and I didn't find it tricky to achieve a nice sharp line.

The product itself is easy to apply as it comes in a tube with a fine tip, I just squeezed a little directly onto my lower lip and went in with the brush to spread it out evenly and then to get a nice sharp outline squeezed a teensy amount directly onto the brush before applying very carefully to my lip line.

One thing that really impressed me about this Lip Tar was the texture and weight of it. It didn't feel sticky and my lips didn't feel coated in goo as they do with most standard glosses (this is a tar not a gloss after all) and I was expecting a little grittiness from the metallic, delicately glittery finish but I didn't experience any. I can't say that my lips felt like there was nothing on them, but you couldn't claim that with most normal lipsticks, however I must say the lightness and comfort of the product teamed with its bold colour coverage really impressed me.

The one thing I will be doing is buying a lip liner in a similar colour as I did experience a little colour bleeding after a while. This wasn't exactly unexpected with a liquid product especially as this one doesn't dry to a matte finish as the original Lip Tar's do, and a quick application of lip liner added before the product is brushed on should sort that out for next time.

Yes, I have blurred everything other than the lips on this one. I have PCOS which makes my face very peach fuzzy and my skin is pretty pore-y and awful up close, especially with flash. So sue me.

I must say, I am really really in love with this colour and its impressive metallic finish. A beautiful dramatic shade which would suit make skin tones and hair colours, it is the perfect shade to add a classy but eye catching detail to your spring make-up look. Who says dark shades are only for the fall?!

You can find details of all Lip Tar shades at the OCC website here.

I purchased mine from Selfridges on Oxford Street (they are located next to the Nails Inc polishes in a stand alone display stand) but you can also order them online here.

Good Friday Shopping Haul

Long weekends, is there any thing better? So far we even have nice weather here in Loughborough which I'm really appreciative for, I need to get a lot of outfit photos done this weekend which have built up over the last couple of weeks while I've been busy preparing stuff for my lovely sister in law's wedding last weekend.

As I have two extra days to play around this weekend I decided a little shopping trip to Leicester would be a nice Good Friday excursion and my lovely friend Lil and her sister Hannah came along too. It was a lovely day out and we were shopping for waaay longer than we have expected, we were out for like 6 hours which was a little crazy but we did squeeze a quick lunch and an afternoon coffee and cake break in too!

I got some lovely bits and bobs and so thought I'd share them with you, starting with the offensively bright pink cropped short sleeve sweater which I have been waiting to go into the sale at Simply Be! I immediately loved it when I spotted it online but when I saw beautiful Gemma rocking it at the Anna Scholz event in February I knew I must own it too. It's £35 full price which I thought was a little steep for such a little sweater even if it is super adorable, but it was in the sale in the Leicester store today for £17.50 so in my bag it went!

Next up was this lovely delicate geometric cage necklace from New Look. It was £4.99 but unfortunately doesn't appear to be online yet. It's a lovely long length and looked fab with the black and white striped tee that I was wearing on the day. It's a lot more modern a design than most of my jewellery as I tend to go for classic styles or cutesy novelty designs, but I really really love it and I know I'll be adding to a lot of my spring outfits.

Very handily right next door to Simply Be in the Highcross is Paperchase. I had gone in a few weeks ago to see if the mid year diaries were in yet but they'd been delayed so I wasn't really expecting to find them this time either, but low and behold there they were and they had the beautiful metallic rose design which I had been eyeing up online. It's a fair bit bigger than diaries I've had in the past but give lots of room for each day - I've decided I want to be much more organised with blogging from now on so having this extra room should give me the space I need to plan my posts ahead of time using little post it notes. There's a handy pocket in the back too that I can pop notes, magazine cuttings and business cards into which will get lots of use for sure.

The only things I had actually planned on investing in on my trip into town was another pot of my favourite finishing powder and a new eyeliner, but Boots are currently doing a 3 for 2 on make up so I grabbed another tube of my current mascara of preference. I also printed off a coupon for any Seventeen eye shadow half price from the magic advantage card machine so grabbed this lovely pinky bronze shade called Rose Quartz.

On a side note, have Bourjois stopped producing Liner Pinceau in black? The lady in store scared me by saying she thinks it's been discontinued and that's my go to liner! Ach!

Last but not least, I cannot walk past a Hotel Chocolat withough buying some selectors. I treated myself to my favourite Pistachio Praline Crunches, grabbed some Salted Caramel Milk Chocolate Almonds for Pete and a packet of Pecan Pralines for us to share. They're £3.85 a packet but if you buy three or more the price drops to £3.25 a packet, so naturally that justifies in my mind that I have to get three rather then two... damn you brain!

What a lovely day out it was - have you got any plans for the long weekend?

Liz McClarnon for Fashion World Swimwear Review - Cherry Print Swimdress and Flamingo Print Swimsuit

$

0

Well, this is terrifying isn't it? I never thought that I would post photos in a swimsuit, it highlights all the parts of my body that I'm not exactly thrilled with and the thought of it terrified me. Then I gave myself a bit of a kick, and I went back and read Leah's Love Every Body posts over again and got the confidence boost to take the photos. But back to the reason for the post...

Hopefully you saw my post last week about my whirlwind trip to London to interview Liz McClarnon about her gorgeous new swimwear range and this week I'm doing a little review of two of the pieces!

First up we have my favourite piece from the collection, the super fun cherry print swim dress. Now I have a kind of tricky time with swimsuits as I have am the peariest pear shaped lady ever - I have a really small bust and a big tum and hips so finding something that fits both my top and bottom can be kinda hard. I think with the swimdress I chose the right size, my bust felt safely contained and I think if I had sized up I wouldn't have felt to secure! I think the sizing is true on the swimdress so I'd go for your normal size if you aren't crazy pear shaped like moi.

I absolutely adore the beautiful blue and the cherry print is crazy adorable, it's so nice to find a swimsuit in a bright, bold colour that is available in plus sizes. The fabric is thick and great quality, I don't predict any see through swimsuit issues like you can get with cheaper, poor quality options. This baby will last you well.

Next up I tried the flamingo print swimsuit, again with an amazingly cute and Summery print. This one I needed to size up on, the fit over my tummy and butt (teehee) was fine, but it was far too small on the bust and squished my taters flat. If you are generously proportioned up top, I would definitely size up on this one. But on a big plus side, it has built in cups for extra support and help to get a flattering bust shape and removable straps so if you fancy going strapless and avoid tan stripes you can!

I also tried out this lovely cover-up kaftan from Simply Yours, I really love the gradient and the peachy pink goes perfectly with the flamingo print! The shape is so lovely and flattering and I couldn't help but swish around in it a little when I put it on, it was just the right length on me hitting mid thigh and giving the extra layer of comfort that I'd want when walking around on the beach.

As I've said before I just adore this collection and I can't wait to see the lingerie range that Liz and Fashion World will be bringing out later this year! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for more adorable prints and bright colours!

Pink Power! Simply Be Lip Print Skirt - Day Look

Hi guys! Oh boy do I love this outfit! It's offensively pink and kitsch-y and a little vintage-y and basically the kind of outfit I have always dreamed of owning but never found in plus sizes - thank you so much Simply Be for making my fatshion dreams come true!

As soon as I saw the lip print midi skirt I knew I must own it, but I was a lil nervous about how it would fit so didn't order it straight away. Thankfully (and meaningfully I think) my local Simply Be store got it into stock so I got to try it on, suss out the fit and know which size to order - I didn't buy it in store because I had a discount code and there were some other bits I needed to order with it that weren't in store.

The skirt itself is made of lovely thick, stretchy fabric with a slight sheen and it my ideal length - midi so it sits just below the knee. I think this length is feminine and classy and looks great with pretty much any shoe be it heels or flats. It can also be worn high waisted as I have here again giving a girly and 1950's-esque vibe that is oh so flattering to a larger tummy like mine. It's priced at £25 which I think is a steal for such a well made and on trend piece.

I decided to team it here with the cropped pink sweater which I've been eyeing up for some time for a cutesy day look. I think the sweater is over the top adorable and the Barbie lipstick shade of nearly neon pink rocks my socks off and fits this season perfectly, as do the dropped sleeves and slightly dipped hem at the back. I will be wearing this A LOT over the coming months.

When it come to accessories I wore two new necklaces, firstly the long gold geometric cage necklace that I found in New Look and then a pretty plain gold tag style necklace from Top Shop which was an option for my SIL's wedding last weekend that I didn't go with in the end. As for shoes I popped on some patent brogue style slip ones that were a Clothing at Tesco buy a few months ago and the bag I bought from TK Maxx years ago when I was really into rockabilly and kustom kulture.

Keep your eyes peeled for my post on Thursday when I'll be wearing the skirt in a different ensemble for a night out on the town!

Plus Size Picks - Carmakoma

One thing I will always remember from my trips to Denmark to visit family when I was younger is how stylish and well dresses everyone in Copenhagan seemed. It's such a clean and beautiful city, full of wonderful little boutiques and stores, but what I did notice was that I could not fit into anything I saw for sale. There were no plus sizes in sight in the lovely little shops, so I wondered where the curvy Danish ladies shopped. You can imagine how pleased I was when I found Carmakoma, a Danish plus size brand run by the beautiful Heidie and Angelica. Here I share some of my favourite pieces from Carmakoma.com.

My first picks and my favourites from the current collection are the Flowerbomb jacket and Flowerwood trousers. Finding a suit in plus sizes that doesn't make you look dowdy is a bit of a feat so when I spotted this wonderfully modern design paired with an amazing bright floral print I was blown away! The jacket has a fab asymetrical zip closure like a biker jacket and peplum like peating to the lower back and I adore the relaxed fit and black panels to the trousers. There's also a lovely Flowerspencer dress in the same print.

Next up I just adore the combination of the super feminine Salfords lace top with the sexy edgy Soap skirt.

The Earley coat is so elegant and the subtle tulip shape is so beautiful. The length and style remind me of a 1960's duster coat but the quilted PU sleeves and asymetric zip bring it right up to date.

I'm not really sure when I would wear the Fareham dress as it's a little shorter than I would like for work but a little dressier than I would wear on a night out on the town, but I adore it. Perhaps a relaxed few drinks at a bar or dinner out. But anyway, the monochrome panelling gives a great illusion style that you usually only see on bodycon dresses but I think works really well on this less fitted shape and the exposed zipper is a great detail too.

I have to admit, bodysuits are never something I have found very attractive and I've never wanted to wear one before, but I just can't resist the Ibis bodysuit in polka dot. It's super cute and the lace detailing makes it super sexy. You can also get it in plain black too. You can also get some cute matching polka dot Canley shorts too!

Here are three beautiful dresses that I would be keen to add to my workwear wardrobe. I love the futuristic feel of the Andover dress with it's mesh and PU panels and structures shoulders.

The Glory dress over the Erantis roll neck sweater would be a great Autumn look and the Luton monochrome print shift is ideal for the warmer weather. I think it looks just great with the colour pop from the shoes.

Do you have any favourite pieces from Carmakoma?

The Curve Ultimate Bolero and Hell Yeah Crop Top Review + Lip Print Skirt - Evening Look

That's right guys, a PU crop top. In plus sizes. Thank you The Curve! As soon as I spotted it on their website I fell in love, but had no idea what I'd team it with. I knew that it would look great with the bolero jacket from the same collection but as I'm a pear shape I needed a bigger size than was available in the matching skirt, so needed to find another option. I was really excited to spot the bolero by the way, I've been trying to find a short jacket for some time as they look best with my short torso, but I've had a hard time finding one that wasn't a bit 'mumsy' so was thrilled when I spotted this bad boy!

I can't tell you how impressed I am with these two pieces from The Curve. Firstly they arrived beautifully packaged in a black box and wrapped in tissue paper with a cute little card. I think some companies underestimate the power of good packaging. If you've ever treated yourself to a fancy purchase you'll know how nice it is to see it being lovingly wrapped up and placed in a pretty box and bag for you. It also shows that the company cares about the product when they take the time to protect it in something substantial so it's safe and sound on it's way home. Good quality boxes also mean you have storage for your posh purchase so you can keep it safe at home too, and obviously it adds that extra touch of class that you want when you're spending a little more on something.

But it wasn't just the packaging that impressed me, the quality of the jacket and crop top really blew me away. The stitching is all beautiful and the fabrics are thick and luxurious feeling with details like the gold zip on the crop top tipping it over the edge. These pieces feel and look really special and I would have expected higher price tags for such well made and unusual pieces - the crop top comes in at £39.00 and the bolero jacket at £55.00.

I really really love this outfit, when I've described it to people I've had a couple of odd looks but when I've shown them they've all loved it and I feel surprisingly comfortable in it. Isn't it amazing how if you think you look good you get a crazy confidence boost? The magic of fashion!!!

This week has been a big one for wearing stuff that I never dreamed I would be confident to wear and I want to send out a quick thank you to everyone for saying such lovely things about my swimwear post. One of the best things I've found about blogging is the support and kindness we all share with each other, it's a shame that there are so many people out there that don't get that support in their everyday life. I love complimenting people cause I love making people happy which in turn makes me feel good, it's a win win situation. Why not try giving someone a compliment at least once a day and see how great it makes you both feel?

Simply Be & Look Magazine Collection Blogger Dinner

Well what a treat this was! A few weeks ago the lovely folks at Simply Be sent me a very exciting invitation to dinner to look at their new collaboration collection with a fashion magazine, they didn't say who it was when the invites first when out which only added to my excitement! The dinner was to be held at Balthazar in Covent Garden which tipped my excitement factor over the edge as I've wanted to eat there for such a long time after hearing such great things about the New York restaurants.

So after work on the 23rd I jumped on a train to London where I met lovely Rosie at the station and we whizzed to Covent Garden on the tube. I can tell you, although I loved what I wore (the outfit in my last post) it may not have been the best choice as it was hot as all hell on the tube and in the reception room at Balthazar! We arrived to a room already full of beautiful blogger babes, the Simply Be and Look magazine girlies and their PR teams and had a wonderful chat and look at the Look collection before sitting down to dinner. Boy is the private dining room at Balthazar beautiful, all glossy embossed tiles and dark wood with patina'd walls and Art Deco-esque lighting!

The meal was just amazing as I'd expected and I was sat with some lovely ladies Katie, Becky, Charlotte and Sarah, some who I had met before and some who I hadn't. The evening just flew by and before I knew it people were starting to leave, I ended up having a lovely walk back to Leicester Square with Lauren, Katie, Danielle and Callie. It was raining a little but the city is so beautiful at night that it didn't matter, and then back on the train I was zooming back to little Loughborough.

It was a marvellous evening and I'd like to thank Simply Be and Look Magazine so much for invited me, and thank you to all the other lovely bloggers who made it such a fabulous event. Now, here is the Look collection for you to peruse, I'm happy to report that all the pieces were just as beautiful if not even more beautiful in person. It's a great mix of styles I think with some really on point pieces like the jumpsuit, midi skirt and duster coat which are all key looks for the upcoming season. Keep your eyes peeled for my review of the lovely prom dress which will be up in the next few weeks!

Weekend Treats

Hi loves! Well last week was a very busy one and I still don't think I've recovered, I am so in  need of an early night but I can never make myself do it. If you remember please tweet me tonight and tell me to go to bed early!

My purchases this week are a very mixed lot - clothes, jewellery, beauty, music, art and a magazine. Lets start with clothes and jewellery...

So we all know I'm a fan of lip printed stuff after last week's posts so naturally when this Lip Print Boyfriend Tank popped up when I checked the new in's at Simply Be last week I had to have it, especially as it's only £12! It's available in a nice black and white stripe too and is long with a dipped back, naturally I'll be wearing it tucked into a pencil skirt as is my want but if you're a jeans gal this would look lovely over some skinnies.

Second up is this lovely floral necklace from Roam at New Look - unfortunately I can't find it online but it was £6 and there are matching earrings available too. The white with pale purple gems caught my eye immediately and I was very pleased that it was on a gold chain as I don't really wear silver any more. FOr six quid I thought it was a bit of a bargain and as it isn't too huge I think I'll wear it more often than I would a bigger statement necklace.

Now on to art, I bought this signed and numbered print at the Brody Dalle show I went to in Birmingham on Saturday with my mayun and gorgeous friend Anne. It was an amaaaazing show, I loved Brody since I first heard The Distillers at about age 14 so it was amazing to see her live and back on form again after such a long absence. As I don't often wear band shirts any more I love that you can get screen prints at a lot of shows now and it's my gig souvenir of choice. One day I'll do a little tour of our house and you'll see how many prints we have on the walls, it's going to be a nightmare when we move filling in and painting over all the holes, ach! You can buy the artist proof of this print from Jacknife's online store here.

Not shown in another picture is Martha Stewart Living Magazine which I have bought every month for the last three and a half years. It's a great mix of lifestyle, interior design, craft, food and recipes and beauty and is a really inspiring thing to get every month. I'm lucky enough that my local WH Smith sells it bu you can order it online here. Note - is anyone else annoyed that this year it's coming to the UK at the end of each month so if it features a holiday it's already gone by the time we get it?

This was a little Tesco beauty aisle purchase - why do I walk down there when I know I will always find a polish or lipstick I can't resist?!

I wish I had seen these Maybelline 'Street Artist' top coats earlier as most of the other colours are now sold out, but I do love this one White Splatter. It looks great over pale purple and you only need one coat to get the level of cover I have in the photo above.

Last but not least, a band called The Beaches supported Brody on Saturday night and I bought their EP which they kindly signed for me. They were really amazing live, unfortunately recorded it loses a bit of the raw power and strength behind the lead singer's voice, but it's still pretty good.

Did you buy anything lovely this weekend? Do tell!

Pattern Power - An Outfit Post

One of those 'fashion rules' that I just love to break is that plus size chicks shouldn't wear bold print or stripes. What a load of nonsense, I don't think a bold pattern looks better on skinny or fat people it just depends how you personally rock the look and if you're a QI fan like me I'm sure you'll know that the whole 'horizontal stripes makes you look fatter' thing is a big pile of rubbish (and who cares even if they did).

I nabbed this dress in the last Simply Be sale and was mainly drawn to it as the print reminds me so much of the amazing traditional hand dyed and printed African fabrics which I have a big love for. One day I'd love to learn to sew properly and then I could whip myself up all manner of cute dresses in bright kooky fabrics like the ones you can buy here.

Welcome to my butt shelf!

This fit on this dress is bang on I'd say. I went for a size 24 and it's pretty much perfect, possibly a smidge tight over my tum but that is to be expected as I usually wear a 26 in a fitted skirt but it's not uncomfortable and I'd still be happy wearing it with just normal panties and tights like I am in the pic above.

The fabric is very light and soft and has a great amount of stretch, as does the little belt like stripe of PU fabric across the waist on the front. The length of both the sleeves and the body of the dress are spot on in my opinion and the nice wide scoop neckline allows for a nice necklace or two. I've worn this at work a few times now with a black cardigan or jacket and got lots of compliments, it's a fabulous unusual print I think which really stands out and the bright colours are perfect - it actually reminds me a bit of the Cut for Evans prints from earlier this year.

If you're looking for a comfy new dress that is light and bright but styled for a smart occasion I'd highly recommend this baby, for only £35 full price it's not too nasty on the purse either!

Bank Holiday Wish List

Another bank holiday, how lucky we are! I've spent most of the weekend so far organising my office, catching up on my way too big pile of washing, cooking me and my man some tasty treats to eat while watching Boardwalk Empire and working my way through Blog Life. I've also done a bit of online window shopping (I'm trying to save for a very busy August and September) and found some really lovely pieces - why am I torturing myself?!?

First up I had a look through ASOS Curve's new in section and there are some real beauties available! Firstly this ASOS Curve Salon Dress With Heavy Embellishment is just divine, a modern shape with a 1920's feel from the beaded design it is just perfect for the season with it's pale colour palette and relaxed, dipped back fit. At £140 it's pretty darn pricey, especially as the beading is only to the front and the shape is hardly complex and fitted, but you can't deny it's pretty as hell.

You'd have to have been living in a cardboard box for the last few months to not be aware that midi skirts are the key skirt look for the spring and I for one am very happy about this. Below the knee length is so much more feminine and pretty but on plus size gals they can look a bit frumpy. This Midi Skirt In Sheer Check takes this classic style and gives it a contemporary twist with a cage style overlay in either black or ivory. If I had to choose just one thing from this wish list it would be this skirt as I can see me wearing it in so many ways, it's hardly a bank breaker at £38 so let's see how long I can resist it...

I've been trying to find a nice blouse with a kitschy print for a good while now as I'd love to try some bow neck tie's and this darling Blouse with Cat Print is just up my street! It looks like a nice relaxed fit too so hopefully the dreaded boob gap wouldn't be an issue.

Last up is this amazing Kimono Maxi Dress in Bird Print which I would just adore to swish about in on a warm summer's day. This would be what I'd wear to a festival if festivals weren't my idea of absolute hell, with a messy up do, lots of hair flowers and lashings of eye liner (as usual).

More clothesies and here are my picks from Simply Be's new in selection. As you know I can't resist a good kitschy cutesy print and this little Praslin Heart Print Dress is a great example, simple and pretty and perfect for flouncing around the park in.

I'm not a trouser person and the thought of a jumpsuit scares me, but this Print Jersey Jumpsuit is pretty enough for me to want to give one a try. I have no idea what size I'd go for as my top is two sizes smaller than my bottom but if it's in store next time I visit I'm definitely trying it on!

Super sexy with a delightful rose print wrap top is this fantastic AX Paris Curve 2 in 1 Midi Dress. I want it, I need it, I desire it. Such a classic pin up style, it belongs in my wardrobe for sure.

I may have mentioned it before but I have a huge adoration of Biba. My mum was a big fan of the brand originally and she has quite a lot of original make up containers and books. Unsurprisingly her love for Biba passed on to me, I think mainly because of the influence Barbara Hulanicki took from 1920's and silent cinema style.

Biba is back with us again at House of Fraser and still offering gorgeous clothing, accessories and homewares but has recently released a dining range too which has stolen my heart. The Starburst Dinner Range and Odette Cutlery Set make my dinner party dreams come true, if only I could afford them! If I could I'd toast my new fancy dishes with some champers from a Gold Rimmed Champagne Saucer (in case you didn't know, champagne flutes are for losers) while wrapped in this super sexy Animal Beach Towel and sniffing some gorgeous Black Orchid Candles and lovingly placing a Reed Diffuser by my bed.

I'm so excited for when we move house in October because we'll be going for somewhere a little bigger than we're in now and I want to make the living room super cosy and decadent. I adore listening to the radio, most often Radio 4 Extra for all the dramas and comedy shows, but at the mo I just do it from the iPlayer radio app on my phone. Not so glamorous. I think this beautiful Roberts Revival Radio would make the whole affair much more civilised.

I'm definitely going to aim for a bit of a trashy but classy early Hollywood vibe so a few Palm Tree Candle Holders will definitely not go amiss, especially next to a fabulous silver Penguin Lamp from Abigail Ahern.

Now we already have some black leather reproduction chesterfield sofas, but I do adore a bit of velour! This royal blue would look great with my blonde hair too, so I could lounge about in style all day long! The Large Chesterfield Deluxe Sofa and the Footstool would perfect the look topped with a beautiful mirrored tray loaded with dainty teacups full of earl grey and plates of delicious cakes and pastries.

My Amazon book wish list is pretty out of control so it's kinda hard to pick which one's I'd currently want the most. It is ridiculous to think that I don't already have enough baking books but I've wanted Joanne Chang's 'Flour' since I saw some chefs praising her sticky buns recipe on Food Network.

Twenties hair is the era I find most tricky, there are such specific techniques involved and the styles are not the kind of thing you can freestyle so I always like to collect more resources to perfect my technique. Art Deco Hair by Daniela Turudich is reviewed pretty well so despite not having a preview I'd be up for adding it to my collection very soon.

We all know I'm a fan of pin up girls and have such admiration for artist like Gil Elvgren and Alberto Vargas who brough these cheeky, pretty ladies to life in art form. Olivia De Berardinis is the modern queen of cheesecake pin up art, regularly creating pieces for Playboy and gaining a lot of notoriety from her amazing paintings of Dita Von Teese. Malibu Cheesecake celebrates her work in a gorgeous coffee table book which I would happily while away hours reading on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

My skin is at an all time low at the moment and I'm trying anything I can to try and improve it. One thing I know I need to do is give my diet a healthy kick and as I've heard great things from my friend Sophia about The Clear Skin Cookbook by Dale Pinnock I think I'll be giving this a read to send me in the right direction.

As I mentioned earlier I've been giving my office a bit of a sort out this weekend. I went out and bought myself a few stationery sorting bits but was disappointed with the lack of stylish office goods in my town so went for a look about online. Papermash is one of favourite online stationery suppliers and when I saw this lovely Rifle Paper Co Polka Dot Recipe Tin on their new in page I fell in love! I currently jot down my recipes in a pretty leather bound book with a gold rose embossed on the front cover which is indeed very lovely, but it isn't that easy to use without a recipe book stand as it closes of its own accord so writing recipes on cards instead would be a good move for me to make and I'd love to keep them safe in this tin.

Papermash will also soon have these amazingly gorgeous Gold Wire Baskets in stock. They're pretty pricey but I can honestly say I've never seen a prettier way of storing magazines and papers. As these lovely baskets are not befitting of my bank balance at present I will instead be storing my stacks of Martha Stewart Living's and Jamie Magazine's in these Tjena Black Magazine Files from IKEA as long as I can persuade Pete to take me over there with the promise of a meatball dinner.

While I'm there I might pick up one of these lovely Ranarp Reading Lamps too, but that will go in the living room rather than the office. The Alma Otter Tape Dispenser from Modcloth will however go straight on my desk!

Well those are my current wants, but have you spotted any lovely things this weekend too?
