Plus Size Picks - Pinup Girl Clothing

Ladies, this is a very special post. I hereby introduce you to the company that has made some of the sexiest dresses I have ever owned, proving that you can indeed be a show stopping stunner if you're plus size.

Pinup Girl Clothing are one of the best vintage inspired clothing companies in the world, ran by a team of glamazon women who really know their stuff including the amazing Laura Byrnes and the drop dead gorgeous Micheline Pitt. They are not a solely plus sized clothing company, but offer most of their most famous designs up to what is the equivalent of a UK 26.

I have two dresses from them, one being the Jessica featured below in fuschia pink that I wore for my friend's wedding a few years ago and is still going strong. Everything is so well made with such attention to detail in the shaping and choice of fabrics. I promise you won't be disappointed if you decide to make a purchase!

If you're looking for something special that will grab you all the attention and show your curves off to the max I cannot recommend PUG enough, and with a flat international shipping rate of $28 (about £17.50) you could save yourself some pennies by getting some friends in to do a bulk order knowing that postage won't cost the earth.

Long live PUG!!!

Magnificent 7th - Polka Dots

$

Well this is very exciting isn't it? My very first post as part of the Magnificent 7th blog challenge crew!

We will be posting on the 7th of each month, and the aim of the challenge is to create an outfit to fit the theme, using clothes from our wardrobes, and yes that does mean digging deep into the depths and finding those long lost clothes! Hopefully one of us won’t end up in Narnia, but you never know with a bloggers wardrobe!

I'd like to say a big thank you to Beth for letting me join the Magnificent 7th party, I'm already looking forward to doing the next post!

The theme this month is 'polka dots' which are a bit of a love of mine, so I actually had a few different options that I could have gone with for this post. I had a bit of a root around and dug out all my dotty items and amongst them found this dress that I bought from New Look's Inspire range at some point last year. It was a pretty staple part of my work wardrobe for quite a while but I've not worn it for a few months now for some reason - I'm not sure why as it's very comfy and easy to turn into an outfit with its nude coloured dots that work with most colours. I teamed it with one of my favourite belts from ASOS Curve and some black suede wedges - please don't judge me on how terribly pale my legs are!!!

Don't forget to check out the other lovely ladies taking part in the challenge!

Vintage Style Hair Tutorial #2 - Overnight Foam Roller Set for Jayne Mansfield Style Curls

$

0

Here we are ladies, the secret to my (and many others...) signature hair do! Most people call these Marilyn curls but her hair was a fair bit shorter than mine so I think it's more of a Jayne Mansfield style. Once you've got the hang of it it's a really easy do and believe it or not only takes about ten minutes to fix in the morning after it's set overnight. Although the curls are pretty indestructible after setting they can blow out of play fairly easily so if you're heading somewhere that you know will be really windy I'd either avoid this do altogether or take a super glam head scarf to keep it all in place.

So first things first you need to know what tools you'll need. The images below are the exact things that I use and you can click the links below to be taken to where you can buy them. Unfortunately they don't all come from the same place, but you should be able to get all the things in your home town as long as you have a Boots and a Superdrug or other pharmacy that sells beauty products. Maybe I should start selling kits? Nothing is very expensive, three packs of rollers will set you back about £12 but I'm still using the same ones I bought two years ago so they last a long time!

Slumber net or other hair net

Step 1 - Wash your hair and then dry it until it is only slightly damp either blow drying or letting it dry naturally. Make sure you dry your parting into place - this works best with a side parting. You can also do this on dry day old hair if you would prefer but you will need to use a little more setting lotion.

Step 2 - Take your empty spray bottle and half fill it with setting lotion, then top up the rest with normal cold water. I always buy the extra firm variety but if your hair curls easily or already has a bit of a wave you may want to try the standard hold instead.

Step 3 - Seperate off a U-shaped section at the centre front of your hair with the tail comb like so...

...then twist it up and clip it out of the way - we'll do this bit last of all.

Step 4 - Now to the main event! Take a section of hair that is no wider than your hair roller and no more than 1-1.5" thick. Spray it liberally with the setting lotion and water solution, concentrating on the ends and trying not to go right up to the roots so you get minimal kinks. Comb the wet (but not soaking) section through so there are no tangles.

Step 5 - Open up a foam roller and wrap the wet section of hair around it, rolling down / under towards your head. Don't bunch up or twist the hair, make sure it lies flat against the foam. If you can try to hold the section of hair quite high while you roll so you can build in some body. Once you have rolled all the way towards your head click the plastic clip in place to secure the roller.

Step 6 - Repeat this step with all the rest of your hair but the front piece that you clipped aside. Remember to roll each section under / downwards towards your head and make sure you keep two rollers to one side.

Step 7 - When all your hair is in rollers un-clip the front and divide it into two sections one beside the other. Repeat the same process as with the rest of your hair making sure you elevate each section and roll downwards towards your face.

Step 8 - Take your slumber net / hair net and gently stretch it out and over your head ensuring you trap all the rollers within it.
You might think it won't fit but I promise it will - it works for me and I think I have a pretty giant noggin. If any of your rollers turn at a funny angle try to re-adjust them through the net so they lie in the right position.

Step 9 - Get your butt to bed for some beauty sleep!
I know you're thinking it will be impossible to sleep like this, but believe me I have no problems. The foam is really soft so they squish right down and you can't feel the plastic clips. I've also tried the velcro ones branded as Sleep Rollers and I couldn't sleep at all in those. I hated them so much I sold them on eBay the very next day!

Step 10 - Wake up, get dressed and put on your make-up. Remove your hair net, undo the roller clips and unravel them from your hair being careful not to just yank them out ruining the curls. Leave the two front rollers that you put in last there for the moment.
I store my rollers in the hair net to keep them together but do with them what you will!

Step 11 - It will look a little corkscrewy and scarey at this point but don't worry. Take your soft bristle brush and gently brush over the top to smooth it together and get rid of any seperation.

Step 12 - Now brush the underneath of your hair moving out and under, shaping the hair in towards your neck so it follows the natural curl that it wants to follow - you will see it spring into the shape it wants to go. Repeat this process all over shaping the hair in the direction you like best. You can use your fingers to gently position the curls where you want them and then use a little hairspray to keep them in place.

Step 13 - If you have some fluffy ends on some of the curls use a little hair wax / pomade to smooth them out. After a few more practices you shouldn't get this problem as it only happens when you don't put the rollers in smoothly.

Step 14 - Remove the two front rollers and brush the hair up and under towards your face, again brushing the underneath rather than the top of the hair. This should shape the hair into a nice high curl at your forehead that turns into a nice swirl at the ends which you can then gently blend in with the rest of your hair on whichever side you decide to direct it.

Step 15 - When you have the style you want give your hair a little shimmy of hairspray all over to keep it in place and you're done!

If you wish to you can push one side of your hair back behind your ear and secure it in place with two crossed over bobby pins before adding a pretty accessory like a flower or bow, or add a cute hat or fascinator!

I hope you found this useful, if you have any questions do send me an email or leave a comment below and I will try to answer any queries you have! Happy styling ladies!

A Stylish Surprise - Mystery Gifts, Modcloth Style

$

I imagine most of you are already familiar with Modcloth as they appear to be taking over the world with their super cute wares, but just in case you don't I'll give you a little introduction. Modcloth is an online retailer selling clothing, footwear, accessories and homewares either designed in house or by independent designers. I like pretty much everything they sell as most items have a quirky vintage vibe to them and you can find lots of unusual pieces that you would be hard pushed to find elsewhere.

One of my favourite things that they do from time to time is something called a Stylish Surprise. The concept is basically this...

There are two different packages you can choose from, clothing or footwear. You just pick your size and order and you'll be sent a mystery item that could be a dress, cardigan, top, skirt, you name it. As you can see you will always get something with a retail value of at least double what you are paying. Another awesome thing is that shipping is only $6.55 which currently works out at about £4.11 which seeing as it's coming from the US is pretty darn amazing! The last time I ordered I received a lovely navy dress which was for sale on the site as full price at $65 so it was a real bargain!

To make sure you don't miss out on the next Stylish Surprise sale head to the Modcloth website and sign up to the mailing list. Make sure you get in there as soon as you can after receiving the notification email of the sale because it sells out super fast!!!

So without further or do, here is a little snapshot of me opening my latest Stylish Surprise package!

Isn't it a cute dress?! I just love the bold pink and the little belt it came with is really cute too. It even features my favourite sweetheart neckline but in strapless form!

It's made of a nice thick black stretch fabric with the pink lace as an overlay. The lace is also stretchy so it has a nice comfy fit and isn't too rigid as some entirely lace items can be. It's a little too short for me to actually wear as a dress, but I think it will look adorable as a tunic top over some black skinny jeans!

Have you ever ordered a Stylish Surprise? If so what did you get?

PS - Sorry for the bad photos guys, I'm having to use my phone's camera at the moment as my DSRL is stranded in Darlington for a few days after Pete's car broke down when we were on our way back from our weekend away in Edinburgh... Don't ask!!!

Feathers and Lace - An Outfit Post and Scarlett & Jo for Evans 2-in-1 Peplum Dress Review

$

0

Well, the lovely Scarlett & Jo team have done it again with another gorgeous dress, fitted absolutely perfectly for us plus size ladies! I'm sure you'll all know by now how much I love the S&J brand - see this post which includes a video filmed at Plus North why I explain exactly why I love them so much!

As this dress is all black with a lovely lace detail I decided to goth it up a bit with my new petrol feathered clutch bag and a deep plum lipstick & dark green metallic nail varnish (both of which I'll be reviewing later this week).

As I've found with all the other S&J pieces that I have tried on, this beautiful 2-in-1 peplum dress is made from wonderful quality fabric with a good amount of elasticity, but that is heavy enough to hang beautifully and not start to go a bit see through when stretched out. It sits just below the knee so is just the right length for me to not wear with tights - I don't like wearing above the knee dresses or skirts without tights as it makes me feel a bit too exposed. My only very slight criticism of this dress is that the slit at the back of the skirt goes quite high, so I think I'll add a little stitching to make it shorter.

Here's a photo without any accessories so you can see it in its own glory...

One really clever thing about this style in particular is that the peplum is seamlessly part of the bodice which is actually an entirely seperate overlay, so it doesn't cling to your lumps and bumps and falls nicely over the top of the main under dress.

As with all S&J pieces this dress is superb value for the quality and style that you get, priced at just £45. I'll be wearing it both for nights out and for work as it is so easy to take it into party gear with some glitzy accessories.

2-in-1 Peplum Dress - Scarlett & Jo for Evans *gifted for review*
Glitter & Suede Ankle Boots - Evans
Feather Clutch Bag - Primark
Baroque Style Statement Necklace - Primark

As I love the accessories I've used with this outfit so much I thought I'd show you a few detail shots of them!

I absolutely love petrol black feathers and have been coveting this Biba cape for ages now but never bought it, so when I saw this clutch bag in the Princes Street Primark in Edinburgh I grabbed it straight away! It was only £8 so enabled me to add some Poe style drama to my outfit for a fraction of the £65 price tag of the cape.

Speaking of drama, I love a good statement necklace and this gold number again from Primark caught my eye immediately because of its architectural style. It reminds me of the gorgeous flourish's you see on beautiful baroque palazzos and churches in Italy.

The boots were a birthday present from my MIL - I fell in love with them as soon as I saw them on the Evans website. They're so gorgeous with their suede and glitter contrast and the the stepped detail is fab, I was worried they'd be a little too high for me but there is lots of padding in the sole so they're actually super comfy.

I hope you've all had a lovely weekend, have you bought any pretty new accessories lately?

Recipe - Twice Baked Broccoli, Ham & Cheese Stuffed Jacket Potatoes

Since starting my new job I've not really been in the mood to cook after work. This isn't typical behaviour, I usually love whipping up something tasty in the kitchen, but I'm still getting used to these new shift patterns and as I'm learning lots of new things every day I'm pretty darn tired by the time I get home. I'm ashamed to say that we've been living off frozen food and take aways over the last few weeks, so I've been trying to think of quick cheap dinners that I won't mind making after a long day at work.

These tasty delights were inspired by a recipe I saw on the Yummly app and decided to play around with. I didn't look at the method the recipe itself gave and just made them how I thought they should be done, and added a few extra ingredients and seasonings to 'knock them up a notch'. If you're stuck for a dinner or lunch idea I'd definitely give these a go as they're delicious, and most of the time they take to make is in the cooking when you aren't actually doing anything so they're easy enough to put together when you're feeling less than chipper!

Twice Baked Broccoli, Ham & Cheese Stuffed Jacket Potatoes
Serves 2-4

Ingredients
4 baking potatoes (I used Elfe spuds)
1 small head of brocolli, about 350g
a few slices of smoked ham
100g grated cheese
1-2 tbsp unsalted butter
1/2-1 tsp granulated garlic
1/4-1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
salt and pepper to season

Method
Preheat the oven to 200C / 400F then take a fork and stab the potatoes a few times. Place them on a non-metallic plate and cook on full power in the microwave for 15 minutes. When they are done place them on to a baking tray and put in the oven to cook for another 20 minutes.
While the jackets are roasting but your head of brocolli into florets and boil or steam until tender. Chop the broccoli roughly into small chunks and put in a medium sized heat proof bow. Now chop the slices of ham into small chunks and add to the bowl with the broccoli.
When the jackets are done remove them from the oven and leave them to cool for about 10 minutes until they aren't too hot to handle, then cut them in half and scoop the insides out placing them into the bowl with the broccoli and ham and being careful not to tear the potato skins. Place the skins back on the baking tray and set aside.
Add the butter, garlic and cayenne to the bowl with the other ingredients with most of the grated cheese, leaving a little behind for sprinkling. Mash the ingredients together until thoroughly combined, season to taste with the salt and pepper and then spoon back into the potato skins. Now sprinkle over the remaining cheese and pop back in the oven for 10 minutes to melt the cheese.
Serve as they are or with a nice little salad and enjoy!

My Everyday Make Up - Pinup Style for Day to Day Life

$

Recently I've been getting quite a few emails asking what my favourite makeup is for everyday wear and which budget friendly brands I like best. Nothing in my normal daily kit costs more than £10 and everything is available from most pharmacys and make-up carrying stores. Most of it is even available from supermarkets.

I tend to try a new mascara each time I need to buy a new one so I have listed the one I am currently using and I use different lipsticks each day so just use whichever colour you like best - naturally I will always go for a shade of red if I can! You might think I'm crazy using £1 false lashes from Primark, but they are seriously the most comfortable lashes I have ever worn and I can happily keep them on all day after trimming them a little so they fit the length of my eye properly. The glue they come with is great too, and they don't look too obvious or drag queeny. Don't get me wrong, I don't wear falsies every day, but I throw some on when I feel like I need a bit of a lift.

So here is the list of products I use every morning and am wearing in the image above along with links to where you can buy them online. I hope this answers some people's questions!

Concealer - SEVENTEEN Stay Time 18 Hour Concealer in Extra Fair - £4.49
Foundation - L'Oréal Paris True Match Foundation in C2 Rose Vanilla - £9.99
Blusher - SEVENTEEN Blush Powder in China Pink - £3.49
Eyeliner -Bourjois Eye Liner Pinceau in Noir - £6.99
Lashes - Primark 'Sultry' False Lashes - £1

I always love to know what make-up products other love so please do share your favourites with me!

My Plus Size Winter Coat Picks

$

I know it seems odd to most, but I always look forward to Autumn. Not just because it's my birthday and the leaves turn pretty colours, not just because of Bonfire Night and that festive feeling, but because I can buy a new Winter coat. I was always the same, every Summer holiday I'd get super excited about getting a new pencil case. Silly silly silly I know but I just adore a good coat!

Every year I say I'll go for something a little more adventurous, but every year I always go for a long black fitted style because I think they're so classy and go with any outfit. Last year I did break free a little and bought a second, berry red style from the Evans 12/12/12 sale, but I still ended up wearing my black belted number more.

Unsurprisingly these picks do include an awful lot of black coats, but there are lots of styles this year that have caught me eye. I love that the cape coat is back in as they're so elegant when paired with a pencil skirt or some tapered trousers and the longer length biker jacket trend is definitely something I'm in to - adding a punky edge to a silly cutesy dress has always been my thing and this just means you can take that trend into the colder months too if you also add a nice pair of thick tights!

Soooooo here are my picks! I started with my absolute favourite up top there, the truly stunning Dietrich Swing Trench Coat by Collectif. It goes up to a size 22 and is the absolute perfect shade of blue for a platinum blonde like me! If you aren't of a bleach blonde persuasion you can also get this delightful style in black, beige and a delicious new shade of bright red! Isn't the flowery lining of the blue shade just darling?!

Simply Be have a really lovely varied range of coats and jackets in at the moment. As you can see here is one of my beloved Cape Style Coats if you fancy going for a little Sixties style chic, or if you wanted to be a little more modern but still with an old school twist you could go for the fabulous PU Sleeved Collarless Coat. If you fancy the more edgy look this Fur Trim Boucle Biker Jacket with Leather Look Sleeves would be perfect and so snuggly warm on a chilly evening, and if you fancied standing out in a really unusual cut thisJoe Browns Absolute Coat with Draped Hem is fantastic. I hadn't thought anything of it when I first saw it online, but a lady at the vintage fair I worked at on Sunday had it on and it looked fan-tas-tic.

Evans have got some lovely swing style coats in this season which are fabulous if you have a bit of a tummy on you. I always add a belt to these styles to define my waist a little more - as we all know I am a fan of the hourglass shape - but they are super comfy to wear as it's such a relazed style. The fur collar and hidden fastenings on the purple coat give it a more fancy air, whereas the petrol blue and the colour block styles are a little less formal but still smart if you need them to be.

Lastly here's a nice selection from Littlewoods / Very. I have actually purchased the first style which is theSouth Fit and Flare Coat with Faux Fur Collar but in black (I know I know) and it fits beautifully and is a lovely just above the knee length. The fur collar is detachable so I can swap it for some of my vintage furs if I fancy it and it goes up to a size 24. Unfortunately these final three styles only go up to a size 20 but were too nice not to mention. I just can't resist the colour contrast on this Definitions Buckle Waist Fit and Flare Coat and that buckle detail is a great touch. You can get another bit of vintage style glam here with this pretty Glamour Princess Coat, although do be careful what you lean on or you'll be back and forth to the dry cleaners like nobody's business! Lastly we have another longer length biker style with this Definitions Belted Leather Trench Coat. It has just the right amount of quilting  (i.e. just as a detail - I loathe completely quilted jackets and gilets) and it looks so much more expensive than it actually is.

I hope you like some of these styles too! <3 br="">3>

Style Icon - Wanda Woodward - Dig it babe, you need a new look.

I think it's kind of easy to see that Wanda Woodward was one of my role models growing up. Red lips - check. Blonde hair - check. Black eyeliner - check. Kitschtastic retro dresses - check. Leather jacket - check. I just wish I could rock a fringe like her.

Gorgeous and full of attitude, Wanda Woodward is a trashy cinema goddess created by the inimitable John Waters, a member of a badass gang of 'drapes' led by Cry Baby played by Johnny Depp who looks especially gorgeous in his leather jacket and turned up jeans.

Wanda is a big fan of the fitted skirt which she teams with wonderfully tight tops, a biker jacket, red lips and the classic rolled down socks and heels combo. The stereotypical 1950's bad girl, she wiggles across our screens dropping wonderful one liners and leaving a trail of cigarette smoke in her wake. It always baffles me a little that Cry Baby doesn't go for her over goody two shoes Allison.

I think the kitschy 50's look is great on plus sized ladies as the clothes are just made for curves, and I seriously don't think anyone can look bad in cat eyeliner and red lips if it's applied properly. So here's a last few pictures of Wanda for inspiration before my list of the essentials you'll need to become a Woodward-ite...

The dresses below are available from a teeny size 8 up to a 22, and the first is made to order so if you need a bigger size why not send Miss Boo Boo Kitty Couture a message and see what she can whip you up?

1  *  2  *  3

Naturally a good biker jackets is essential for both badass-ness and warmth. If you fancy going for a more traditional style you should try this Stud Trim style, or if you wanted to give the look a bit of a modern edge try this Zip Detail jacket both from the always fabulous Simply Be.

 1  *  2  *  3

In all honesty, I think a good pair of bow adorned peep toes is a better look than rolled socks and kitten heels these days so why not go for a pair of these stunning Lola Ramona's (which are all on sale!!) from Office?

A good red lipstick is a must have in any lady's make-up kit and these are three of my faves. For the budget conscious I'd go forMaybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Fatal Red or if you feel like spending a little more try the famous Russian Red by MAC. If you want to go a little more fancy you could try and get your hands on one of my favourites Adora in the Kat Von D Foiled Love Lipstick Line for Sephora - it's a wonderful metallic candy apple red and has mega staying power!

Lastly you'll need to get those locks coloured to a lovely deep blonde and line your eyes with a slick of black liner. This shade 730 from the Preference Mousse Absolue range was the closest I could find to Wanda's colour and as you'll want a good fine brush I'd suggest trying Yves Saint Laurent's eyeliner which is available in most Boots store.

Cobalt and Curls - An Outfit Post

$

Oh I'm so so happy that I finally have this gorgeous dress! I've wanted it ever since it hit the Evans website but just haven't had the spare cash to buy it, so I was really happy to find it in the sale at the Fosse Park store when I went to exchange some boots that didn't fit me quite right. I actually swapped the one pair of boots for both this dress and the studded ankle boots I'm wearing here too so it must have been meant to be!

I just love the shirt style of this dress, it's very 1950's housewifey but not as structured so it's more comfortable for day to day. The under-dress is made of a nice thick sturdy fabric which is perfect for going under a sheer overlay. The traps to the under-dress are adjustable like bra straps which is an added bonus so you won't have troubles adjusting it to the right height depending on your boob size and there are little ribbons inside the dress to hold them to prevent it twisting round or going out of line with the over-dress.

Naturally the colour and the dobby spots were what first caught my eye, as you all know I do love a good shade of blue with my platinum blonde hair and well, spots are just darn adorable. The collar was a plus too, I really like shirts but just don't feel comfortable enough in them in case some button gaping occurs, but I don't usually find this a problem with dresses for some reason and this is no exception. The collar looks lovely done up to the top, but I really fancied wearing my glittery kitty brooch that I bought at Plus North nack in September so wore it slightly undone with the brooch on one side.

The style and length of this dress is very versatile and lends itself to bare legs, tights or leggings and any kind of footwear. I've worn it with both flats and ankle boots so far which both look great, but heels would look amazing too and even a pair of Converse /Vans like pumps would look cute and casual. These ankle boots have a bit of a subtle cowboy style with the cut and stitch detail over the bridge of the foot, but the pyramid studs and rounded toe add a more modern touch so they are easier to wear. They're only £25 in the sale now too!

As you can tell I'm really pleased that I finally got this dress and it just adds to my high opinion of the Scarlett & Jo range as it's great quality and a really unusual cute style. Well done again to the S&J team!

Sadly sold out but this, this and this are some other lovely blue dresses from S&J!

Shop Spotlight - Geisha Wigs

As you can all see, I bleach my hair on a pretty regular basis. Naturally this causes it a fair bit of damage to it, but I just couldn't have my natural hair colour any more as it's a dark blondey brown and just isn't striking enough for my liking. For a while now I've been considering getting a wig in the same style and shade of blonde as my own hair, so that I could give my hair a bit of a rest and let it grow out where the inevitable breakages have occurred.

On my online wig search I came across a fabulous store and just knew I had to share it with my lovely readers as the range of colours and styles was just fabulous and the prices so reasonable! That shop is Geisha Wigs and I thought I'd share with you a few of my favourite styles from their amazing range starting with my favourite, Pink Frosting!

It just so happens that Geisha Wigs have a Halloween offer on at the moment! Just use the code HALLOWEENEVERYDAY at checkout to receive 10% off!

Have you ever ordered from Geisha Wigs before? If so I'd love to know how you found the service and quality of the wigs!

October Shopping Adventures - Some of the spoils!

$

Oooh I've had such a busy but lovely end to the month! Lots of adventures (you'll hear about the biggest one soon!) including a trip to London with my SIL & MIL for some wedding dress trying on (not me!!!) and a fabulous Saturday of shopping, lunch and cocktails with the gorgeous girlies from my last job!

I've had such a wonderful time and spent entirely too much money, although I'm happy to say that most of it went on Christmas prezzies rather than myself so I can at least kid myself into thinking I've been good even if only I'll believe it!

Here are some of my spoils, minus the presents of course, that I've picked up on my travels...

On my Leicester adventure we spent entirely too much time in Primark, and I walked away with this glitzy burgundy vest top and another pair of their fluffy lined slippers that I'm so fond of.

We then headed to the place I was looking forward to visiting the most - the Simply Be store in the Highcross. I don't go into Leicester all that often so it's been a while since I visited but it was great. I'm a little disappointed that half of the store has now been given up to Jacamo but hey, big boys need somewhere to shop too I guess ;)

I think the shopping gods were looking down on my that day as when we walked through the door a nice lady handed me a flyer stating that all sale items were buy one get one half price! I got thoroughly over excited and headed straight for the sale rails picking out lots of different items. A nice young chap saw me struggling with my hangers and asked if I'd like a dressing room setting up - this is a lovely thing that they do by taking all the items you pick and getting a room ready for you, writing your name on a pretty chalkboard on its door. Simply Be changing rooms are my favourite!

I ended up buying two pieces from the Claire Richards range that I had been eyeing up online - the spot print dress and the velour pencil skirt. I adore the dress and am going to do an outfit post in it soon, and the skirt is a great staple to have for nights out or dressy day time do's.

I also grabbed this prettymetallic pewter Lace Top Shirt Dress by Lovedrobe and some cute red quilted platform pumps. I had spotted both of these online and thought they were pretty nice, but seeing them in person I loved them both! All four items ended up costing just over £60 - what a bargain!!!

While I was in the Highcross I also treated Pete and I to some choccies from our favourite Hotel Chocolat. Those pistachio praline crunches are genuinely the best chocolates I've ever had combining five things I love - pistachios, praline, chocolate, cherries and rose. They were all amazing, but those were definitely my favourite.

The next morning I nipped over to the next village from my town, Quorn, to a little vintage and antique fair that was being held at the Village Hall. In all honesty the last two events that the same people have run I haven't ended up buying anything, but this time I came away with a few things, again including some Christmas presents. I did however buy myself this lovely tea trio for £4 which needs a little clean up as it has some sellotape residue from where the pieces were held together, but is otherwise pretty good without too much gilt wearing. I love green and gold crockery and china as it always reminds me of some gorgeous Art Deco pieces that my grandparents have.

I also treated myself to this super adorable little mouse brooch! He is only about 2cm long with a wiggly chain tail and has the cutest little green gem eyes! I paid £5 for him which is a bit more than I usually like to spend on brooches, but I just couldn't resist him!

So those are the items I naughtily gifted myself... have you bought any pretties recently?

Evil is no match for her killer curves!

Hello lovelies! I wanted to give you all a little apology that my posts have been a little sparse recently I'm ever so sorry. It's been a whirlwind of a month full of adventures taking me from Scotland to London, vintage fairs, hair bookings, cocktail fuelled shopping trips, birthday fun, photo shoots and a few concerts thrown in for good measure!

On one of these adventures I had the absolute pleasure of meeting the truly stunning Betty Pamper who has a heart as big as her hair (and that's saying something)! I've loved Betty's blog for a good while now, it's only natural as she is also a fan of vintage glam and glitz and infuses all her outfits with a bit of fabulous fun!

Isn't Betty gorgeous?!?!?

Betty is an absolute doll and hands down one of the sweetest and friendliest ladies I have ever met. If you haven't checked out her blog Pamper and Curves you absolutely positively must head over there now!!!! She is so lovely in fact, that when I met her she gave me one of her awesome Killer Curves shirts that I've been after for a while now! There are two styles available and both have the most fabulous B-movie style curvy cartoon lady standing proud and kicking butt on the front!

1   -   2

The shirts themselves are made of a really nice thick cotton with excellent quality print that you know isn't going to fade after just a few washes. I've worn mine three times now and washed it after each wear, and the print is just as bright and bold as the day I got it. At only £13 each they are a mega steal for such a fabulous shirt! They are also available in a number of cuts so if you're of the bigger boobed persuasion and think that high necks aren't your friend, then why not go for a sexy slash neck instead?!

I personally love graphic print tees for wearing on chilled out weekends in town or if I'm ahving a nice day at home pottering about doing a little cleaning and cooking. I wore the outfit below yesterday when I spent the day running errands around town doing the food shopping and seeing friends. As you can see I did these photos in the morning when I was doing a little cleaning with my hair pinned up and a bandana on! It may seem crazy but I always like to look nice when I'm cleaning, I dunno I think it just makes it more fun when you're bopping around to some of your favourite tunes with a duster in hand!

It's Party Time! (Nearly...) - Plus Size Party Picks Part One - Yours Clothing

I don't think it's any big secret that I absolutely love a good party dress. If truth be told, when it comes to clothing for a night out or occasion I genuinely wouldn't consider anything but a dress. To be honest, in day to day life it is very very rare that I don't wear a dress... but anway, that festive season is coming upon us quicker than most of us would probably like and to save yourself getting last minute Christmas party outfit stress I thought I'd start doing a few posts featuring some fab celebration worthy styles that would be great for the whole festive party season.

I thought I'd start with some of my picks from Yours Clothing who I haven't featured before on the blog. Yours have been around for a good few years now and I own quite a few pieces by them, but for some reason they are all casual items like cardigans and maxi dresses. Having seen their dress selection at the moment I feel absolutely silly that I never think to look to them for an occasion dress, as you'll see from these picks they have some truly gorgeous styles available and they are all so reasonably priced!

I'll start with the dresses above, naturally I went with the sparkliest first. I absolutely adore thisBlack And Gold Sleeveless Lace Peplum Dress - you would only need to add some nice heels and a clutch to this baby, no jewellery needed (unless you want to take it over the top as I always do. This Black And Gold Sequin Shift Dress is just begging to be boogied in too with it's lovely length and cut out back detail.

Talking of dresses to be danced in, these fringey numbers are just to die for and will add some decadent Gatsby style chic to your Christmas. This style is available in black or deep red and you need only add some long gold necklace, t-bar heels and a glitzy hair ornament for some all out flapper fabulousness.

If you fancy going for something a little more comfortable but still with a special touch of glam why not go for one of these two lovely skater styles. I am absolutely in love with this flocked purple style (but then again I love anything flocked, perhaps I want to look like a chaise lounge) and I think my SIL Steph would look killer in this teal lace 2-in-1 number.

Carrying on my love for upholstery style fabrics are these two beautiful velvety skater dresses. As they're sleeveless they'll be fabulous for when you're getting hot and funky on the dance floor or are sitting demurely on a bar stool in a roasting hot cocktail bar that's full to busting. The deep red is a classic colour for Christmas, but I think this blue is such a lovely shade and would look fabulous with either gold or silver accessories.

Last but not least, if you're wanting to inject a bit of fun into your outfit while staying a little glitzy and classy why not go for one of these super cute sleeveless skater dresses in either teal owl print or ivory bird print. The chiffon skirt overlay just screams party and the little gold belt that comes with them is adorable. What's more, they are both currently in the sale so hurry on over to Yours Clothing and grab one for yourself!

Magnificent 7th - A Leopard Themed Outfit Post

Boy, my second Magnificent 7th post sure has come around quickly! If you're not familiar with this challenge here is a little outline for you...

The theme this month was leopard which I didn't think I'd have a problem with, until I went through my wardrobe and realised that I have lots of leopard print accessories but not many main pieces of clothing. Then I remember this lovely tee that I bought from Forever 21 at some point last year and new what to do!

I either wear this top with a pencil skirt or this maxi skirt (also F21) and then add some wedges, gold jewellery and throw my leather jacket over the top. It's a good outfit for lazy days at the pub where you want to be a bit dressy but relaxed and comfortable at the same time.

Although the items I'm wearing above are no longer on the Forever 21 site, you can get a similar look with the pieces above!

Golden Renaissance - My Modelling Adventure for Simply Be!

Oh guys I've been so excited to share this adventure with you! It feels like it happened aaages ago when in fact it was only a few weeks ago. I guess I should start right from the beginning when I got one of the most excited emails I've ever received from the lovely Charlotte at Simply Be asking me if I would like to be one of five bloggers to be photographed in some of their fabulous partywear outfits! Naturally I got very very over excited and immediately replied with a big fat YES!!!

A few days later I received an email letting me know who the other lovely ladies were that would be joining in too - I was really happy because I already followed all three of the UK based ladies Betty, Rachel and Rosie but was also excited to be introduced to someone new on my radar in the form of US journalist and model Allie McGevna.

Lots of private messaging ensued in the lead up and I arranged to meet up with Rachel and Rosie the night before as we were all staying at the same hotel in Manchester. I got there after a pretty much ok train ride (trains majorly stress me out after I missed the one I was taking to my first GBBO audition a few years ago) and was very happy when I checked in and was given a warm chocolate cookie! What a great idea huh? I got settled in to my room (which was lovely and full of treats!) and then met Rachel downstairs in the bar where we shared a few cocktails before lovely Rosie showed up fresh from a night out at a comedy show and we sat chatting for a while before deciding we should get to bed so we wouldn't look too tired out the next morning.

We were up bright and early and met outside the hotel before piling into some mini vans and heading to The Wirral to our fabulous destination...

Thornton Manor! We were all ooing and aahing as we got out the cars and were led into the building through beautiful hallways and up a sneaky little set of stairs into the room that would be our main base for the day. It was all go and we took it in turns to get our hair and make-up done while the team of stylists and the seamstress prepped all our outfits!

I absolutely adored the make-up artist as she really listened to how I usually style myself and then went for it creating the perfect pin-up glam style look that I love. I learned some great tips and she used quite a few products on me that I've been wanting to try for a while. I was especially excited as she used Illamasqua Hydra Veil as the base which I have wanted to try for ages and a fab pair of lashes also by Illamasqua - she even gave me the box and glue so I could use them again if I wanted as they are such good quality! Another plus was that she used one of the limited edition Rihanna for MAC lipsticks that I had missed out on getting a few weeks before as it had sold out, and she also introduced me to a fabulous product which made my hair so shiny and sleek - L’Oréal Professionnel tecni.art Liss Control Smooth Control Gel-Cream. Believe me that stuff went straight on my Christmas list!

Thank you Betty for snapping away throughout the day while I was too busy fluffing around and forgetting to take any photos!!!

When my hair and make-up was done it was off to the set! I was led to an incredible wood panelled dining hall and off we went! I was really nervous and I'm pretty sure looked absolutely awful with a big awkward expression on my face for the first few shots, but the photographer and team were lovely and I relaxed and started to enjoy it really quickly. Here's a photo of the first outfit that I shot it which was a gorgeous body-con style midi dress with a subtle metallic baroque print - you can view it on the Simply Be site here.

After this we decided to try another dress style which was this lovely skater style dress, again with a baroque style print which I loved so much - you can see it on the website here! I felt a lot more comfortable in this style and I wasn't so nervous about posing, so I think these photos came out much better. Here are two of my favourite shots...

I was surprised by how much I liked these shoes too - I never go for pointy styles but these looked really nice on and the gold embroidery was so darling!

I had a lovely rest of the morning pottering about in our base room and having lunch while the other girlies has their individual shoots. It was really nice to talk to Betty, Rosie and Rachel in person and to meet Allie who was just lovely - I was nervous to meet her at first as she's a pro but she was so sweet and easy to talk to, we share a love of period houses and ghost stories and both ran off at the end of the shoot to take photos of the house and grounds!

After everyone had done their individual shots and had lunch we all went down into one of the main reception rooms where a lovely big fire was burning and we were to pose around a lovely chaise lounge for the group shots. It was so hot next to that fire I was afraid we'd catch fire with all the hairspray that we had on! It was so much fun though - we tried lots of different arrangements and switched places a good few times taking lots of different shots before doing some sillies at the end including a group Blue Steel!

After this we all went back upstairs and got ourselves back into every day mode before driving back to Manchester, and I hopped on my train back home still full of excitement and so looking forward to seeing the final photos!

Just look at these gorgeous ladies - don't they all look just stunning? Thank you so much Rachel, Betty, Rosie and Allie for being so wonderful and friendly, I know I'm very lucky to have done this shoot as I'm pretty new to fashion blogging but you were all so lovely and welcoming! I really hope our paths cross again in the future!

And last but not least thank you so so much to the Simply Be team - it was so lovely of you to invite me to take part, it was an amazing experience and I appreciate it so much! I'm really proud to be featured on your site and can't wait to see the sexy stylish outfits you come up with in the future, you are a very big part of why I'm now so much happier in myself and started outfit blogging in the first place, because you offer clothes that show off my curves and let me show my personality through fashion like I always wanted.

Thank you times a million!

It's Party Time! (Nearly...) - Plus Size Party Picks Part Two - Dance Floor Deco-dence

As I'm sure you have realised by now, one of my absolute favourite fashion eras of all time is the decadent, sparkly, over the top 1920's. Thanks to The Great Gatsby this style has permeated the catwalks and high street this year in the form of intricately beaded and sequined clothing in rich blacks, nudes and golds, ornate headpieces and bold dramatic make-up. Naturally it is a perfect look for parties, and especially for Christmas festivities where you can get away with a more extravagent look than at other times of the year.

Here are some of my picks from the array on offer in plus size stores at the moment, I will follow up with an accessories and make-up post another day as there is so much to cover! I'll start with my favourite piece so far...

This AMAZING bolero jacket by Collection hit the Evans website last week and instantly took my breath away. Everything about it is just perfect - the short style, beautiful sparkliness and fabulous Art Deco style pattern. It is at the very top of my wish list for Christmas and I'm keeping all my fingers and toes crossed that it will be under the tree for me!

Joanna Hope has some lovely pieces on offer through Simply Be this year, keeping very much in the flapper girl veign. The maxi dress is a great way to work the look in a more subtle way, and great if you don't like showing off your legs - just add some pretty shoes and a nice clutch, no jewellery needed! The middle dress is my favourite with its scallop shell like detail to the bottom hem and starbust like pattern to the bodice. It is absolutely gorgeous and also available in teal, although I much prefer the black. Lastly this fringe detailed dress is great if you're a fan of the shift style and want some sparkle without being over the top. It's also a lovely length sitting just below the knee.

Next up we have a lovely shift dress from wonderful Scarlett & Jo featuring a beautiful beaded bib design to the chest and pretty sheer sleeves which would look great with some skinny black trousers and heels. Next up is a great piece from Sorrento, a brand I don't have much knowledge of. This all over embroidered dress is just gorgeous however so I'll keep on the lookout for future pieces from them. Lastly we have a stunningly detailed sheer shell top which I think would look amazing over a plain form fitting black maxi or midi dress.

Here again we have three brands that I have never purchased from before but have some great offerings for this year's festive season. The first dress by Koko is a little unusual for the season as it is silver not gold, but I really think it works in an ice queen kind of way! This next dress by Ruby Rocks is a little more modern if you don't feel like doing the full Gatsby - the classic LBD features a nice key hole neckline and pretty metallic detailing. Finally we have a very gorgeous vest top from Rise - another great style if you don't fancy a dress but still want the show stopping sparkle.

Naturally you need some excellent shoes to go with your fab new dress and I've been told that these metallic t-bar beauties from Simply Be and really comfortable. I had to include this beaded cape in the round-up, although it is a pretty pale peachy pink rather than black or gold. It would be an easy and relatively cheap way to turn a plain dress into a new outfit adding this and a similarly coloured clutch, and a pearl hair ornament would be the icing on the cake.

These gorgeous mary jane style court shoes from Evans with subtle snake skin detail would be a great addition to any outfit, and the chunky heel means you're far less likely to take a tumble! If you're not a heel fan you could still follow the snake skin trend with these lovely ballerina pumps, or stick with the embellished look with these nice studded flats.

I just couldn't do a 1920's post without featuring some shoes from Miss L Fire. I have coveted so many of their styles over the years and they have done themselves proud with the Autumn/Winter 12 collection. These are some of my favourites.

Little Loves - Nivea Lip Butter Review

Just a quick post today to share one of my favourite new beauty finds! They've actually been around for about a year now - I remember hearing good reviews back in January! - but I only just got my hands on some. In truth the only reason I grabbed them was because they were on offer at Ocado for £1 each and as the weather is turning it's thermostat down I thought I should stock up on lip protection so I don't have to worry about chapping. A girl never wants to be worrying about chapping. They're hardly expensive at £2.25 each full price but at only a quid I thought I'd grab all three flavours to try.

Until 03/12/13 you can get them for £1 each at Ocado or Boots currently have them on a 2 for £3.50 offer.

I absolutely love them, they're just what I like in a lip balm - wonderfully scented and not too sticky. If you put too much on you might find them a bit greasy - you only need a little trust me.

In less than a day they've restored my lips to their former glory after a weekend wearing a red lipstick that turned out to be really drying, after only three applications (one of each flavour of course) my lips are nice and plump and soft again.

The scents are nice and strong, my favourite being the raspberry rose which smells like the best chewy berry sweet ever. The vanilla macadamia is dreamy too with a mega creamy scent reminiscent of white hot chocolate, ad the caramel cream is like tasty caramel coated popcorn.

Another thing to note, as I am a packaging design nerd, is that the tins are a really pleasing size and shape and the smooth matte print feels really nice in your hand.

My only gripe would be that they are a little milky and semi-opaque so they make your lips look a little pale when applied, but if you only use a small amount it's barely noticeable.

These will definitely be a staple item in my handbag and in my glove compartment from now on and I'll be stocking up on some more in my next Ocado shop!

Plus Size Pinup - Autumn / Winter Essentials from Collectif Clothing

Right my vintage loving darlings, the ever grand Collectif clothing have been releasing some super gorgeous items recently which are just perfect for your Autumn / Winter wardrobe. All the pieces I'm showing you here are available now on the website in a size 22 which is their largest size, although I did here a rumour that they'll be going up to a 24 soon but can't promise anything that was just heard on the preverbial grape vine.

So what really made me decide to do this post was the amaaaaaaaaaaaaahzing coat above which I saw on Instagram and immediately fell utterly in love with. Oh it's so dramatic and decadent and toasty warm looking and GORGEOUS! Look at all the pleats and the fullness of the skirt and the shaping of the fur on the collar. Pure perfections. You can buy it here right now and I highly advise that you do so.

I'm sure you're all well aware that I have done party dress mad so it will be no surprise that I've included some here, including another piece to add to my velvet / velour obsession in the form of this gorgeous wrap around Delilah dress.

The amazing Regina dress which I reviewed in this post has also been brought out in a lovely flock polka dot in black and red.

A new style which would be just perfect for Christmas or Boxing Day would be this adorable embroidered Kate Doll Dress.

A cute sweater top is always essential for a retro loving lady and they don't come much cuter than this cherry patterned Annie top. The colour is a delight and that little bow? Sheesh talk about adorable!

If you need to look tres chic and sophisticated at any point this holiday season you should get your mitts on this super classy Veronique top ASAP - it's available in this wonderful shade of purple or a lovely deep blue and would be perfect over a pencil skirt or some snappy trousers.

A good skirt is an excellent winter staple for wearing with some warm tights and a nice jumper. If you're feeling fancy why not go for this amazing Florence skirt in the same delightful floral velvet fabric as the Regina dress that I love so much.

Is it just me that finds tartan majorly Christmassy? Anyway, this super pretty Liesel Blackwatch skirt would be fab for chilly walks in the park or doing your prezzie shopping with a plain long sleeved sweater underneath and maybe a thrifted brooch for a little sparkle!

Meeting your new beaux's parents for the first time? Attending an important meeting? Just want to look like a strong sexy powerful woman? (what am I talking about?!?!?!) Then you should definitely get your bod into one of these amazing jackets (and skirts). This amazing Diana suit blazer will hug your curves in all the right places and the structured sleeves add that wonderful don't mess with me air, or if you're feeling a little more fun and kitschy why not go for this superb buttoned blazer!

Ok I have to admit I told a little porky pie earlier as not eeeverything in this post is available up to a 22 - the Frances Knit Dress above currently only goes up to an 18 but I am really hoping this gets extended up to a 22 so I can get my hands on one. I've never tried anything like it on before but I'd love to see if it suits my body shape as it's such a classic style with its dropped waist and relaxed long sleeves.

Are there any other pieces in Collectif's collection that you love?

Irregular Choice Midlands - fun at the Leicester store and a fab pair of new shoesies!

So, a few weeks ago I was putting my rollers in first thing on a Saturday morning while half watching The Princess and The Frog when my phone buzzed and to my utter delight I found out I had won a pair of shoes from the amazing Irregular Choice store in Leicester! I had thought I hadn't won as the original winner had been announced the day before, but it turns out whoever that was hadn't read the terms right and didn't actually live anywhere near Leicester and so couldn't come to the store to pick a pair so they had to redraw and I was picked! Woohoo! I got super excited and rang the store straight away with the secret password 'thumbelina' and let them know I'd be in the following week to choose my new shoesies!

So my little sis Laura and I headed out to Leicester on the train the following week to choose my pair of shoes and do a little shopping. The store itself is fairly small but light and airy and choc full of GORGEOUS shoes, hats, sunglasses and jewellery pieces for you to choose from. Here are a few snaps I took while I was trying on...

I really wish this next pair had been in my size, although I could definitely not have walked in them, but seriously how fun are those Santa heels?!

I really really love the sunglasses that you can get from IC, they're so kitschy and fun - just look at those pearly bunnies and gemstone kitties!

The jewellery range is amazing too and lil sis and I headed right for the rings trying on as many as we could!

Now this is what you call a statement necklace...

Naturally I made Laura try on the sequin furry moose hat. That face definitely says 'I love you big sister'.

So after much giggling and trying on I decided on this lovely pair called Dazzel Razzel!

The heel is perfect (and glittery) so I won't be wanting to take them off after five minutes and the black and white colour scheme will go with lots of different outfits. Plus there's a bow, and we all know I love a good bow. The sparkly silver detailing around the edges combined with the textured fabric and gorgeous lining and sole are all examples of why Irregular Choice shoes are so amazing and worth every penny - each pair is finished by hand. The 'v' to the fabric over the bridge of the foot was also a really pretty detail on these, as well as making them a little more comfortable as I have slightly wide feet.

Thank you so much to the Irregular Choice Midlands ladies for drawing me out of the hat and for being so fun and welcoming when we came to visit! I had a blast and will definitely be back next time I fancy treating my feet to something fab and funky, and I highly suggest you do the same too!
